Lunch and Learn Events Offers Grandparents Way to Help

The Northland Coalition with support from Tri-County Mental Health Services held two “lunch and learn” sessions in March.

The complimentary luncheons focused on the influence grandparents can have on keeping children alcohol and drug free. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) provided funding for the events, which were held at the Clay County Health Center in Liberty and the Platte County community Center South in Kansas City, North near Parkville.

Madonna Miller of Liberty (background) and Bonnie Davis of Kansas City, North were enthusiastic about the information they were learning. Older Adult Care Coordinator Sally King enjoyed conversation with a grandparent at the Platte County area “lunch and learn.”

Tri-County Mental Health Prevention Services Manager Vicky Ward offered a presentation on the assets proven to be the foundation needed for raising productive, successful children at the luncheons for grandparents.

Floyd Adams of Weatherby Lake talked with Youth Prevention Specialist Ryan McElhaney following the event.
