To promote Girl Power throughout the Northland, Tri-County Mental Health Services is sponsoring a Girl Power Leadership Academy on March 26-27 at Camp New Hope, 21209 NE 188th St. in Holt, Missouri. Pre-registration is required. Check in on March 26 will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The academy concludes at noon on March 27. All participant applications must be received by March 19.
The Girl Power Leadership Academy is open to young women from sixth through eighth grades in Clay, Platte or Ray counties. The event is designed to teach young women how to address issues within themselves, their schools, and their communities. Through education and positive peer influence young women will be given the tools they need to make positive life choices. Participants will attend workshops on self-esteem, nutrition, self-defense, leadership, and communication.
The Girl Power Leadership Academy is open to public, private, and home-schooled girls. The $30 registration fees covers all materials and breakfast on Saturday.
Girl Power! is part of the US Dept. of Health and Human Services, “Safe Passages” initiative designed to support children through the challenges of adolescence.
